The game of wicket (in some areas called wicket ball) was the primary form of ball play in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut as early as 1830 and until the Civil War, when base ball became the pre-eminent American ball game. Similar to cricket, the game features players bowling a ball in an attempt to break apart a standing wicket, and opposing players with bats attempting to knock the ball away.

Kwik Cricket Year 5 Open ( Elmbridge Borough)

As part of Surrey Cricket's extensive schools competition programme we would like to invite you to participate in the Year 5 open Kwik Cricket Competition being held at Claygate CC on the 31st May 2012
The competition is a pairs outdoor cricket competition played with a softball and is held for year 5 boys. The Competition is 8-a-side, although schools are encouraged to bring a squad for the day as changes to the team are permitted after each game. Please note girls may play in this competition however they might be competing against teams solely made up of boys. (No gender ratio)
The game is fun, fast, exciting and is designed to show players that cricket is a sport they can get involved in to develop their skills and enjoy the team competition against other schools in their borough/partnership.
The Rules
Pitch- Two sets of stumps 16 yards apart
Team- 8 in a team
The Game- One innings per team. each innings to be 8 overs long (6 balls in an over)
Batting & Scoring- Batting team bat in pairs who each face 2 overs. Each team starts with 200 runs.
Each time a batter is out. 5 runs are deducted and the other batter faces the next ball.
A batted may be out bowled, caught,run out, stumped or hit wicket (The batter who is out does not face the following ball)
There is no LBW unless the batter deliberately blocks the ball with a leg or foot.
Runs will be scored in the normal way (boundaries to be decided)
3 runs awarded to the batting team for each no-ball and wide bowled but no extra ball is bowled unless it's the last (8th) over when the extra ball has to be bowled again.
Bowling & Fielding – Each player on the fielding side must bowl 1 over.
Bowling takes place from one end.
Players on the fielding side rotate fielding positions after each over. (clockwise- bowler becomes mid off, mid on becomes bowler)
Bowling should be overarm where possible (the ball may bounce more than once so long as it doesn't reach the batter rolling).
Underarm deliveries must only bounce once.
Apart from the wicketkeeper, no fielder is allowed to stand within 10 yards of the batter until the ball is hit.
The Result- The team with the higher score wins
